Stories of Transformation

A sanctuary of self

Elle's story

After moving into our new house, I was determined to create a bedroom that truly felt like me — somewhere calm, personal and full of character. I had so many ideas, but needed help shaping them into a scheme that would feel cohesive and considered.

Heather listened carefully to what I wanted, helped me choose colours and wallpaper I loved, and gently encouraged me to be bolder than I might have been on my own.

The result - a room that feels joyful, feminine and deeply personal.

Plain, drab and missing me

The room started off completely plain. Aside from the lovely view into the garden, it felt flat and lacking in personality — more somewhere to sleep than somewhere that felt like a sanctuary.

A joyful, calm retreat

Now the room feels like an extension of who I am. The colours lift my spirits, the pattern brings softness and charm and draws my beloved garden inside.  The whole space feels calm, welcoming and beautifully put together.

pattern, personality and pure pleasure

Heather's story

This is my own home, and a reminder that sometimes the smallest decorating decisions can bring the biggest sense of joy. I had fallen in love with this William Morris wallpaper and wanted to find a way to use it that felt balanced rather than overwhelming.

By pairing it with soft pink walls and ceiling, the pattern was able to sing without overpowering the room. The way the sun reflects off the metallic sheen in the paper brings a smile to my face every time I see it.  It's like when a diamond ring projects light everywhere.

The result - a room that brings me joy morning and night

Pretty but plain

The bathroom was already pleasant, with a soft and delicate paint colour, but it lacked that final layer of personality — the detail that would make it feel memorable and entirely my own.

A jewel box of joy

The wallpaper transformed the feel of the space. It now feels bold, joyful and full of personality, while still retaining a sense of calm. It is a lovely example of how pattern can bring life and individuality to even the smallest room.

A new chapter

John's story

My wife was an avid gardener and when she passed I knew I wanted to still enjoy the garden space but needed something that suited my lifestyle.

The result - a space that I use and enjoy and fits my lifestyle perfectly. I am barely in the house now.

A late wife's domain

My late wife was an avid gardener but after her passing this space needed to fit my need for low maintenance space I could enjoy matched with my more contemporary style.

Enjoying the golden years in style

I can't believe how much time I now spend in the garden.  With Heather’s guidance and in collaboration with the wonderful Jo @ Plan Ahead Gardens this space has become everything I wanted and more. I could never have achieved this on my own. Heather was collaborative but took charge of every little detail ensuring the finished result was just perfect.  I am now barely in the house!

Childhood bedrooms to be cherished

Charlotte's story

We moved into a doer-upper.  It's our dream home but at times the constant chaos can feel overwhelming.  Time poor with three young children we wanted their bedrooms to be somewhere they would cherish and remember fondly as we embarked on the long journey of turning the house into our dream home.   Even though Ned got stuck with the smallest bedroom we wanted it to feel really fun and special but be designed with longevity in mind because we wouldn't be redecorating again any time soon.

The result - a small room with a big personality that is a perfect backdrop to creating cherished childhood memories

Box room

It really was a blank canvas.  Heather thought about the practicalities of the space, the young boisterous occupier and a longer term look.

To booty-ful

The room is fun and yet has a mature English gent type feel.  We love that this is the wallpaper Ned chose but we really made it work for the space. The tongue & groove panelling gave the room texture and robustness.

a simple shift, a stunning change

Alison's story

Moving into a new home with my girls and my partner felt like the start of a new chapter. We did not have a huge budget, but I wanted the house to feel personal, welcoming and full of character.

Heather has a gift for spotting simple ideas that make a real difference. Her suggestion to wallpaper the back of this cabinet with these leopards was such a small change, but it completely transformed the piece and helped the room feel more like us.

The result - a piece that ties the room together beautifully and feels bespoke

Practical but plain

The cabinet itself was useful and well-sized, but it blended into the background and did not do justice to the things we wanted to display and enjoy every day.

Character in the details

Adding wallpaper to the back panel gave the cabinet depth, warmth and presence. It is now one of my favourite features in the room — proof that even a small, thoughtful change can have a big impact.

Sand castles & Sea gulls with sentimental value

A beloved boy's beach themed bathroom

Even your bathroom can evoke memories and hold sentimental value.  The wonderful thing about kids is their imagination is limitless so I wanted to package up everything that is wonderful about being a child and summer days spent at the beach making sand castles, looking for crabs and shells with the seagulls flying overhead pretty much sums it up.

The result - They can be transported to their favourite place every day

Sea gulls & sentimentality

The seagull embroidery sewn by a great-grandma that had pride of place in her living room was the perfect starting point for this little boy's beach bathroom.  The sea shells collected from holidays, a mural of a well-remembered holiday with cousins, brings back happy memories.

To sand castles & sea shells

Sea birds fly around the room making this room feel like you're permanently on holiday.  Without the risk of losing your lunch!

A pocket of pleasure

A pocket of pleasure

Shoe cupboards, coat cupboards or under-stairs toilets have the ability to be wonderful little pockets of pleasure, offering functionality and fun.  Just like a designer jacket with a fun fabric pocket, it elevates the rest of the outfit without having to be faced with a colourful high-energy pattern all the time.

There is nothing quite like the thrill of opening a space that is traditionally functional and finding a real dash of personality and fun inside.  Turning every day tasks like putting your shoes away into a delightful task.

The result - A truly unique house that feels like me

Shoe cupboard stress

New build homes are the ultimate blank canvas. We always knew this needed to be a shoe cupboard but for far too long it was just a stressful dumping ground of chaos.

To functional & fun

With some thoughtful planning and a dash of artistic flair this is now one of my favourite spots in the house. Everyone who visits loves putting their shoes away and this paper never ceases to delight.

wild and wonderful

Dreams of adventures

Having a memorable bedroom as a child doesn't have to cost the earth.  Just like a child it just needs a solid foundation which can be evolved over time and with some care and attention will grow into a deeply personal and cherished space.

The result - a deeply personal and unique space in which to let him dream big and grow creatively.

Details to delight

This little boys bedroom was inspired by some wonderfully fun jungle animal fabric and the whole concept grew from there.  Up-cycling wardrobes but then adding these super fun handles and adding an embroidery done by his late grandma, and treasures found by his mother from her years of travelling has filled this room with stories and memories of adventure to inspire this young mind.

Setting their imaginations wild

His love of books is reflected in the artwork at the end of his bed where he sits and reads at night dreaming of the adventures he will have. These rooms don't happen all in one go but evolve and change and grow just like the people who live in them.

"The perfect rooms are rarely the ones that are remembered. Instead, it is the rooms with individuality and soul that stay with us."

Kit Kemp
