Wendy House wonders

The Story

This Wendy House arrived in pieces—no instructions, just one photo and a lot of hope. I wanted a little space in the garden for my daughter, but the parts sat on the driveway longer than I’ll admit. Eventually, I asked Heather from The Home Project Companion to help. With her company, some shared laughter, and a bit of trial and error, we brought it to life.

Now, when I look out of my kitchen window, I’m reminded not just of the build, but of the quiet lessons in patience, teamwork, and doing something new simply because it matters.

Y

Before

Before it became a playhouse, it was just a pile of mismatched panels, rusted bolts soaking in citric acid, and my very questionable hand-drawn “technical plan.” It didn’t look like much—but it asked me to learn, to try, and to trust that the process would make sense along the way.

After

The final result may not be perfectly polished, but it represents something much more meaningful. At a time when I needed to believe I could take on tasks I once relied on my husband for, this project became a reminder that progress is still possible.

With a little help, a little courage, and a lot of heart, we built something together—something that stands for companionship, confidence, and the small achievements that carry us forward.

Grandma’s Chair, Given New Cheer

The Story

This nursing chair has lived many lives in my family, passed down and re-upholstered more times than any of us can count. When my sister handed it to me for my first baby, it arrived ready for its next chapter—one that needed a fresh “dress.”Heather helped me choose fabrics that felt playful yet elegant, perfectly suited to the nursery. Together, we stripped it back, layer by layer, and she showed me exactly how to rebuild it. I didn’t just restore a chair—I learned a craft, shared good company, and added my own story to its history.

One day, I hope to pass it on to my children, not just as a family heirloom but as something I helped bring back to life.

Before

The old fabric wasn’t terrible, just tired and carrying the marks of many years—and many babies. As we peeled it back, we found traces of its past: old materials, forgotten colours, and hints of the hands that worked on it before us. It was a quiet reminder of how objects carry memories, and how each generation adds something of their own.

After

The finished chair is now a centrepiece in the nursery, full of character and comfort. I love it not just for how it looks, but for everything it holds—family history, new skills learned, time shared, and the memories made nursing my own two boys.

Honouring her Honesty

The Story

When my mother died unexpectedly, we found ourselves sorting through her home—each drawer and cupboard holding pieces of her life. Among them, I found the central panel of the wedding dress she had sewn herself when she married my father. It was unmistakably her: delicate, thoughtful, and full of quiet character.

I had so many memories of sitting with her, looking through their wedding album, hearing the stories behind every detail. I knew I wanted to preserve the panel, but I didn’t know how to turn it into something that would belong in my home and daily life.

Heather helped me see its potential. Together, we explored ideas and found a way to honour the shape and spirit of the fabric, transforming it into something I could display with pride and tenderness.

Y

Before

At first, it was just a scrap of fabric—beautiful but awkwardly shaped, with no obvious purpose. It felt delicate, almost too precious to touch. Yet within that single panel lived so many memories, stitched into place decades ago. The challenge was finding a way to preserve its integrity while giving it a new life.

After

What emerged is more than a display piece; it’s a quiet tribute to my mother’s creativity, honesty, and the stories she left behind. By working with the natural shape of the panel, we preserved its authenticity and allowed its history to shine.

Now it lives in my home as a gentle reminder—of her hands, her craft, her love, and the privilege of carrying her memory forward in something made with intention.
